Conclusion The future of Kuwait is still far from certain. The trauma of the Iraqi occupation, the independence of the resistance movement, and the hopes following liberation have raised expectations and caused tensions which need to be resolved.

It is presumed that both were strategic centres on the land route to the hinterland of Arabia. Present-day Kuwait is believed to date from about 1710 with the arrival of a group of nomads from the Dahamshah section of the Amarat, a sub-group of the famous Aniza people who had moved from the hinterland of Arabia in search of water. Among the nomads were important families such as the Al-Sabah, now the ruling family of Kuwait, the Al Khalifa, now the ruling family of Bahrain, and the Az Zayed, Al-Jalahima and the Al-Ma'awida, from whom many of the present Kuwaitis are descended.
