Truman's name. Most published works that use the name employ the period. One of the difficulties is that if one chooses to omit the period in his own writing, to be accurate he must use it in citing other works that do use it, and in citing the names of organizations that employ the period in their legal titles, such as the Harry S. Truman Library, the Harry S. Truman Library Institute, the Harry S. Truman Historic District, the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, and the Harry S. Truman Dam. Thus an editor following that policy would have to decide in each instance whether to use it or not.

1939 With Senator Burton Wheeler, introduced bill to reorganize the railroads and place them under the regulation of the Interstate Commerce Commission.
